TYPICAL PRODUCTS FROM THE VAL SARENTINO/SARNTAL VALLEY
The typically untypical from the Sarntal Valley
Ideas, talent and perseverance are what the people of the Val Sarentino/Sarntal Valley apply to make their special, handmade products. It is the outstanding quality that makes them so popular: carpets made of sheep’s wool, hand-knitted “Jangger” jackets, lovingly crafted wooden bowls, ornamentally hand-stitched leather products or care products based on local mountain pine. The culinary delicacies too deserve special attention, specialities with a Val Sarentino/Sarntal Valley touch.
Each Saturday in Sarentino Village the farmers set up their market stalls on the square in front of the church. A weekly meeting that provides a varied, lively mix. Whether simply strolling or hunting for bargains, there is something for everyone.
At one time everything was organic. And thanks to a few committed Sarntal Valley farmers' wives, it has remained the case! "Ollerhond Selbergmochts" (All Kinds of Homemade) is dedicated to this very philosophy: offering South Tyrol's traditional fare from yesterday to the customer of today.
If a handmade item is unique, tells a story and is of the very best quality, then it certainly comes from a "Sarner Gschick" (Sarner Skills) establishment. Five craftsmen from the Sarntal have joined forces in order to make the centuries-old tradition of handicrafts and traditional manufacturing techniques known far beyond the valley itself.
