HOLIDAYS IN THE LITTLE MOUNTAIN VILLAGE SURROUNDED BY THE LOVELIEST SARNTAL MOUNTAIN FARMS
Pens
The neighbourhood of Pens is actually sub-divided into Ausserpens, Innerpens and Asten. The small, pretty village of Pens, with its splendid church of St. Peter and St. Paul lies at 1,458 metres above sea level at the lovely head of the Pensertal Valley where the panoramic pass road to the Penser Joch (2,211 m) winds its way upwards over a distance of 9 km. Today, Inner- and Ausserpens together have 414 inhabitants.
Just the name Pens alone reminds us that this is a small, rural village and district that has a very old and long history of settlement. The name (Bennis in 1166) has until the present day been neither clearly translated nor explained. It is supposed to mean "basket". The parish of Pens is very old and dates from the year 1442.
