The festivities begin on Saturday with a musical procession to the festival grounds, followed by an evening of dancing. On Sunday, the solemn Mass is celebrated, after which the procession makes its way through the main village to the small Church of St. Cyprian. In the afternoon at 2:00 p.m., the traditional parade takes place, featuring numerous festively decorated floats and many brass bands from near and far. After the parade, concerts are held on the festival grounds, and of course there is once again dancing and entertainment for young and old alike. On Monday, as early as 7:00 a.m., the “Sarnar Kirchte-Morkt” begins—the largest and most important farmers’ market in the Sarntal Valley.
It is, so to speak, the parish fair for us Sarner locals, and it is celebrated throughout the valley like a national holiday. Anyone who can possibly do so takes the day off work. For the Sarntal Valley, the parish fair also marks the end of summer. The livestock return home from the alpine pastures, the school holidays come to an end, and autumn approaches. We see it as a wonderful opportunity to spend a few pleasant hours together in good company and with lively entertainment.
